Find Starry Brook Farm at The Foundry!
Today Starry Brook Farm's Fiber Production moved into The Foundry. We are excited to move into such a wonderfully community based facility. It is filled with creative small business types hard at work. 'Inspiring' is an understatement.
Below are some pics from moving day!
The Foundry is a small business incubator on the East Side of Buffalo. |
This space is 10x10. Our neighbors are an upholsterer, a woman who upcycles furniture, and a woman who teaches refugees how to sew. Couldn't ask for a better 'neighborhood'. |
Pretty much a nice blank slate |
First order of business was to mop the floor. |
It dried quickly. |
Coat hook, and fleece rack. Those are the best cuts of this year's shearing. |
As Sarah mentioned, I may need more than one chair for when folks come to visit. |
Another rack to organize stuff. Dye jars will be organized on this shelf somewhere. The windows look into my neighbors upholstery shop. |
Skirting table with light. |
I guess it's time to get to work... :-)

Fredonia Farm Festival
August ended with The Fredonia Farm Festival. We had a great view from our tent. It was a fun show and we made a few new friends.
These are our Closet Sachets made of small burlap bags filled with cedar and pine shavings... not only are they a great alternative to moth balls but they also help dry out musty closets....
We also had some survival bracelets made in various sizes. This came in handy for sizing as I ended up making some in other colors for folks as they walked around the fest.
Below is the hypo-allergenic and detergent free soap we make here at Starry Brook Farm...
We had a great view of the parade...
John worked long hours on Saturday, then Sunday morning I woke him up early to drop me off at the tent. Then he went to tend the alpacas, came back to the city to tend to the dog. Once Dallas was comfy, John drove back out to the fest. I couldn't fault him for catching a few zzzzs before the fun ended and it was time to pack up....
August on the Farm
August at Starry Brook Farm is all about preparing for the winter to come. My parent's home is heated with a wood. So the wood shed needs filling....
The alpacas have their fleece to keep them warm. What they need for the winter is hay... Here is the main hay barn filled to the brim....
This is the hay storage part of the alpaca barn....
And we managed to squeeze a few bales in another corner of the barn... oh look, that is where the container of beet pulp is....
All our preparations were done of under the watchful eye of Pumba....

Summertime means wild grapes and water wells...
Summer came along on wild grape vines...
A young fawn, complete with spots, was attracted to the fresh cut brush...
And then the rig to drill the well arrived....
Look, they found water!
TaDa!
Next will be a hand pump... so that we can water the Alpacas someday...
